Localo, previously called Surfer Local before being spun off from the main Surfer SEO brand, takes a refreshingly straightforward approach to Google Business Profile optimisation. Rather than overwhelming you with data, it gives you a weekly task list telling you exactly what to do to improve your Maps visibility.
The visibility score is the core of the product. Localo analyses your GBP compared to your competitors and calculates a score for each keyword you want to rank for. Then it tells you what actions would improve that score: add missing categories, respond to reviews, post more frequently, upload photos. Each task is actionable and explained clearly, without assuming you know what any of it means.
I think this approach is genuinely clever for clients or business owners who aren’t local SEO experts. Instead of staring at a spreadsheet of data and wondering what to do, you get a to-do list. That removes a lot of friction and gets people actually taking action, which is ultimately what determines whether any SEO tool is useful.
The free plan is useful and you can get a real sense of where you stand before paying anything. The paid plan at $29 per month adds competitor tracking, automated reporting, and more detailed insights. Where Localo falls short is in depth: it’s best used as a complement to other tools rather than a standalone platform. But as a way to keep your GBP consistently optimised, it’s one of my favourite recommendations for clients managing their own presence.
