Pinterest Trends is a free tool from Pinterest that shows you which topics, search terms, and keywords are trending on the platform over time. If your business operates in visual, lifestyle, or product-driven categories such as home decor, fashion, food, weddings, or crafts, Pinterest Trends is a research resource that Google-centric tools can’t replicate. Pinterest users search with a distinctly discovery-oriented mindset, often planning purchases weeks or months in advance, which makes the search data valuable for content and product planning at a longer lead time than typical search behaviour.
The seasonal trend data is particularly valuable. Pinterest users plan Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and summer projects significantly earlier than they appear in Google Trends, so Pinterest Trends can give you a meaningful head start on seasonal content. You can overlay multiple keywords on the same chart to compare their seasonal peaks and understand which products or topics trend earlier or later in the year. The “Related trends” section surfaces adjacent keywords and topics that are growing in tandem with your seed term.
The limitation is obvious: Pinterest Trends only reflects behaviour on Pinterest. If your audience doesn’t use Pinterest heavily, the data won’t be applicable. The platform skews heavily towards certain demographics, particularly women in the 25 to 45 age range in Western markets, which means the data is highly relevant for some niches and essentially irrelevant for others. If you do operate in a Pinterest-relevant niche, though, I’d make it a regular part of your content planning process. It’s free, genuinely insightful, and surfaces opportunities that Google Trends would never show you.
